Why Do People Use Social Media?

There are many people that believe that social media is only for the young, although this is not true. There are many networking sites used by people of all ages, such as Facebook, YouTube and Instagram.

Interestingly enough, 90 percent of Irish people use social media platforms on a day to day bases. This being said, 60 percent of Irish adults have used social media in the past year. The reason why adults have been using social media more and more is because as technology advances, change is happening all around. Social media has changed how people share information and communicate worldwide.

There is a universal notion of Facebook and how it has changed people's lives just by creating a profile. Their mission statement is “to give people the power to share and make the world more open and connected.” Being connected with friends and family members you haven't seen in years is something everyone wishes for. How would you feel if you made a profile and ended up linking with an old college friend? Or perhaps maybe even a high school acquaintance? You would be thrilled! This is why many people use Facebook as a form of social media to stay in touch with those they love.

Social media is not only used for connecting with others, but identity building as well. Some people use social media to show who they really are, whether that is who they actually are, or who they want to be. Instagram is a great way for users to express who they are through photos and videos. Interacting on other users profiles is fun and easy, just like a photo with a double tap on the image, or a comment below. It is also the fastest trending app right now, which is another reason why users have been so intrigued to check it out. Being able to take an image and post it on your account or story is also very convenient using your mobile phone.

As the years go by, and technology advances, more and more users use social media as a way to connect with others and express themselves in a unique manner. Let's see where this year takes users on their social media rollercoaster
